Microkinetic Modeling of Acetylene Hydrogenation Under Periodic Reactor Operation

Dynamic reactor operations will gain interest with the increase of intermittent electricity from renewable sources. Periodic operation catalytic reactors can also be used for kinetic studies better parameter estimation than steady-state operation. This methodology is exemplified case acetylene hydrogenation over Pd/α-Al2O3 using small amplitude flow oscillations. It allows evaluation several elementary parameters one set dynamic data a reaction mechanism based on single site. The optimized transient model able to reproduce time-evolution reactant and product molar fractions at outlet fixed bed operated modulations different amplitudes frequencies. further shows that conversion controlled by two steps, hydrogen adsorption step surface vinyl intermediate into adsorbed ethylene.
